The video appears to show Beyoncé as the leader of her own all-girl nation, wearing a crown with wild animals at her feet, when she's approached by a (male) army. As the foreign military threatens her, she dances, and her own army of high-kicking girls grows in number until they look like they can easily overtake the men. But instead of attacking, they raise their hands in a salute -- as if to say, We are here, and we are strong. Do not mess with us.
Meanwhile, the song lyrics praise women for their unsung role in "running the world," singling out college grads, 9-to-5 workers and -- in the best verse -- moms:
